FURTHER TREMORS AT CHEVIOT. PEOPLE LEAVING THE DISTRICT. FEB PRESS ASSOOf ATION. Wellington, November 21. The postmaster at Cheviot telegraphed to the Secretary of the Department this morning that several sharp shocks have been felt since 1 a:na., the last being at 7.56 a.m., the effect of which has been to reflew the apprehensions of the people. Six small families are leaving to-day for home* provided by sympathisers at Cariatchurch. Ghristohubch, November 21. Over a hundred settlers interviewed the Hon. W. Hall-Jones at Cheviot in ! connection with pushing through the railway and opening up the Port-roid. The chairman said the completion of tbe railway was of vital interest to the place, and the longer' it was delayed the longer settlement would be kept .back.

Mr Hall-Jones, replying, said the Cheviot people hid passed through an experience that no men or women in New Zealand had ever gmie through. His visit would be productive of good in the nay of hastening the construction of the railway, and any course decided on by him or his colleagues regarding the Port road would be in their best interests. He hoped it would not be raauy days before assistance would be accorded to those who suffered by the earthquakes. .Renewed shocks of earthquake at Cheviot have re-aroused apprehensions of residents, about 40 of whom left this morning. Hon. Mr Hall-J ones arranged for frea passes on the railway. The bridges will be repaired by the Government, and the Crown Lands Banger will spend several days in the district ascertaining the damage to settlera' houses and to roads, Later.

Telegraphing at 10.15 am. the Cheviot; postmaster says the recurrence of shocks has revived the paaic. Over forty mm, women und children left this morning by coach.
