Maolaren decided not to play owing to a slight attack of rheumatism. Last night's rain made the g.-ound sodden, necessitating a postponement till 2.30 p.m. The weather during the remainder of the day was fine. Worrall captained the Victorians, and winning the toss gave tbe visitors the first chance of testiog the qualities of the pitch. The wet wicket appeared to suit the Englishmen better than the fast Adelaide Oval. Altogether, their I play was more interesting, and several [ displayed better form than in tbe opening match. Jeesop, who has a most unorthodox style, made things lively, putting his runs together in half an hour. Quaife went in fourth, an-1 took no chances, his scoring being painfully slow. Jone=, in the little time he stayed at the wicket, kept the field moving, and his score included a fiver off McLeod. Tbe wicket wa» cut up a gocd deal towaids the close.
