About fifty members attended and the Premier occupied the chair, having on his right the guest of the day. Captain Rusmll was in the vioe-cbair. Only two 1 toasts were honoured, namely, " The King " and " Our Guest," each being proposed by Mr Seddon and honoured with enthusiasm. The Genual, in his reply, said he would not fail to make known to the rank and file of the army the great honour done to him in New Zealand. He had, he said, tiken an enormous interest in the colony and in everything connected with it, for the reason that a great his owfi .countrymen were settled here. He was astonished at the progress made, and thought the pioneers had been very j long-headed mtn. He urged the members to zealously guard the great possession under their care, and pointed .out that injdefenoe matters the best rifles, the best guns and engineering talent were at their disposal if they chese to make use of thom. The afternoon was devoted to a railway excursion to the Lower Hutt, and a drive to :to Bellevue gardens. In tht morning he inspected the cadets of the public | schools and Wellingtoi College. SIR HECTOR VIBITB NEW PLYMOUTH. | Wakqahui, November 2. General Sir Hecor Mac Donald altered his arrangements, and does not t intend going to Rotorua via Wanganui river. A wire received from him today states bis intention of arriving , here on Monday and leaving on Tuesday for New Plymouth. He will be welcomed by the Mayor and Caledonian Soo'ety on arrival her*| and will be entertained by the Caledonian Society in the evening. On Tuesday morning he will be taken op the river as far «s possible by the Mayor, who h*s placed the steamer Manuwai at his disposal. Ho Isstm by the 2 p.m. train for the north. On Siturday afternoon Sir Heotor Mac Donald telegraphed to Mr 8. TTBH that he would be unable to take part in the unveiling ceremonies, ae though he had altered hie arrangement* «o u to go to Auckland via New Plymouth he would not be staying in New Fly* mouth. We understand a meeting is to he held at the Town Hall at 10 o'clock this morning, when all interacted are invited to be present, to endoavour to make arrangeme nts to get the steamer delayed tilt 10 o'clock on Tuesday night, so that Sir Hector may be en* abled to meet some of the old veterans.
