OUR OLD SOLDIERS.
A further meeting of those interested in the entertainment of old soldiers attending the ceremony of unveiling hatchments was held last night. A good deal of discussion took place on the question of date, it being urged that the original day—Sunday—should be reverted to. Tbe chairman, Mr. R Hill, read the following telegram from Captain Hill-Trevor: —" Tha Governor much regrets that prior engagemfn's will prevent his being able to attend the unveiling of hatchments on Thursday, 7th November, at New Plymouth."
It was stated that no reply had yet been received from Sir Hector MacDonald or the Premier rs to whether they could attend. The meeting was thus unable to arrive at any definite idei of what should be done, and finally, on the motion of Mr Standish, seconded by Mr Webster, it was resolvad that iu ] the event of Sir Hector MacD maid and the Premier not accepting the in-1 vitation to be present at the unv iling ceremonies on 7th November, ths meeting recommends that the original intention of unveiling the hatchments ! on Sunday next bs carried out. | A further meeting will be he'd at 7.30 this evening, when it is hop sil the final arrangements may bo dr cid'd upon. >
