HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Hospital and Ohsritable Aid Board was held en Monday. Present: Messrs Oorkill (chairman), Oliver, McDonald, Wilkinson, Liardet, Sutton, Stewart, Mackiy, Scott, Lepper, Stobr and McCullum. Mr. Muckay urged that a protest should be made to the Government on the Board having to bear the expense of pitients outside the district, especially in the case of co-operative workmen. Mr. Mackay moved that a copy of tho letter be sent to the Government with an intimation that the expense imposed oa the Board was unjust and urging that the Government should make a special subsidy for the cises in question. Thb Chairman stated that letters had bpen received from Messrs and McQuire, M's.H.R, relative to a request for provision of ambulance apparatus; also that the Minister had intimated the request would ba considered. Evans applied for j permission to hold a service at the new refuge at 10.30 every Sunday morn-! tog. i The Chairman stated that Dean McKenna had also asked to be allowed to ho'd a service in one of the vacant rooms. Mr Liardet moved that the applications be complied with. Mr Mackay pointed out that other denominations might, and probably would, make a similar request, and. he objected to one church having advantage oves others, as it had in other placas led to friction. He moved that the matter ba deferred till next meeting. Mr Sutton suggested leaving the matter in the hands of the House Committee. Mr McDonald did not think the services of other denominations would clash as there was room for all. Mr Liardet deprecated the introduction of sectarian matter into the question. Mr Liardet's motion was then carried by 7 to 5, Messrs Lepper, Stohr, Stewart, Mackay and Scott voting with the Noes. The Chairman stated that it was proposed hy the Rev. S. S. Osborne to present each of the inmates with a copy of the Bible. Dean McKenna had, stated that so far as his flock was concerned he had no objection to a Douai Bible being given them. It was understood that the Board consented to the proposal. The Hawera Committee were authorisd to accept a tender for grazing at Hawera, Mies Handley's name was placed on the list of applicants for probation ship, and Marion Mclnt sh's on thu list of outside applicants. Several applications for the reduction of charg; s foe hospital treatment were dealt with. A. Haughey, Hawera applied for a 'trans r er of his firewood contract to H. jJ. The Auckland Board applied for payment of an account incurred by W. McKay, who stated he came from Okaiawa.—Referred to the police for inquiries and report Mr Maekay's action relative to a case entrusted to his hands was confirmed. The Board went into committee to consider certain cises. The sum of £lO Is was passed for travelling expenses. Accounts were passed. A list of all patients' accounts outstanding was ordered to ba laid on the table at next meeting.
