Captsih I/im bert. commander of the Te Aoau which steamer it was alleged passec the scow when in trouble, said whei the Te Anau was passing that particu lar place at the time of the capsizing of the Whakapa ; , the third officei (Hazard) was in charge of the deck and no distress signal was seen b} either officer or any of the crew. Th< weather was somewhat thick when th< Te Anau was passing East Island, and there was some difficulty in seeing a mile ahead. The inquiry was further adjourned till Thursday, when tbe evidence of the third officer of the Tc Anau will be taken.
