GOVERNMENT CAUCUS.
PER PBESS ASSOCIATION. Wellington, October 15. At a caucus of the Government parly, held to-day, about forty members were present. The official report supplied by the Whips states that it was decided that some thirty-three Bills be slaughtered, among the number beiDg the Young Persons Protection, N.Z. University Act Amendment. Land and Live Stock Auction, Fair Bent, State Fire Insurance, Stud, Discount Stamps, Bating on Unimproved Value Act Amendment, Products Sixports, Orchard and Garden Pests Bills. A discussion took placee on the Federal Tarifl in its hewing on Now Zealand products and trade. The Premier sdd the imported products of Australia which would ba brought under special review would be reSned sugar, fruits, timber, coal, Australian wines, oils, salts, furniture; and he laid special stress on cjal, sugar, fruits, timber, and especially in respect to making large concessions in favour of sugar refined in the colony. It was also announced there is to be an amendment of the Workers' Com-1 pensation for Accidents Act in the direction of allowing mortgages to remain secured, and the exemption of casual labour, practically bringing the Act into lioe with the Act, Mr'Seddon assured the cauoua if the Estimates were finished this week there was nothing to prevent the stssion ending the firs'-, week in November.
