It is understood that the next parade of theTaranaki Battalion takes place at Hawera on the 11th November, when a big muster is expected. The Patea Company will also be able to attend this parwie, which is one of the leasons for holding it at Hawera. A Volunteer route marching competition over nearly nine miles was held at Wellington last Saturday, Five corps supplied detichments, and the College Rifles proved victorious. Considerable interest was taken in the contest. Colone' Pentou has issued an order regarding the use of water D'jttles and haversacks for private purposes. He poitiCn out that they are Government property, and are only to be used when on pir-id", and that any men found such articles for private purposes will ba deemed guilty of a breach of discipline and will bo lined accordingly. Tl-.ii' .y-one defence rifle clubs have bean accepted under tho Defence Act! Amendment.
