COPPIN'S ROYAL DRAMATIC COMPANY.
There was only a moderate audience at the Theatre Roy«l bn Tuesday evening, when Coppin's D amatic Company opened their season with " Struck Oil." It w&« under very adverse circumstances that this company, who have been well received in the Waikato, commenced playing in New Plymouth. Not only has theie b.ea a succession of theatrical companies here of late, which naturally tended against a large audience, but owing to severe indisposition tbe chief actor, Mr. George Ooppin, was unable to appear, and at a moment's notice Mr Lionel Harcourt wns called on to fill the important part of " John Stoefel." It is fair to give Mr Harcourt credit for his endeavours *o do justice to the impersonation, but as the part demands the exercise of peculiar talents which do not fall to the lot of every actor, it did not give that satisfaction which in Mr Ooppin's hands it would have done. Mies Nellie Collier as "Lizzie" played with much vivacity, her songs being very good. The other parts were filled with fair ability, and altogether the play was favourably received. TO-NIGHT. Owing to Mr Ooppin feeling unequal to tbe strain of his part in "The Miner's Daughter," the pieoe staged will ba A Woman's Revenge." This hRs proved very attractive during the company's tour, and should be well worth witnessing.
