Twenty-six of Celonel Kekewich's officers were killed or wounded in the fightiug at Moldwill, Commandant Brand was severely wounded daring the engagement at Oaledon River. Colonel Walter Kitchener's column has reached Vryheid. Commandant Scheepers, who is ill, whs conveyed in a buggy southwards towards Riveredale. He narrowly escaped from his pursuers, whose losses duing the chase of the commando included two officers killed and two wounded. Dr Feilding, who volunteered to accompany the orderlies to succour the wounded at Italia, was compelled to attend the B er wounded, while the British remaißed in the broiling sun all day without water and only unskilled attendance until Dr. Kennedy arrived. Amongst twenty-two prisoners taken bv the British at Reitz was tierre De Villiers, who some time ago prosecuted fifty Britishers at Harrismith for refusing to bi commandeered. The evidence adduced at the treason trials at Pretoria shows that many Boers who have sworn neutrality and are receiving British relief are communicating with commandos still in the field. The traitors rely on British leniency if they are caught. THE ITALIA AND PROSPECT FIGHT 3. VARIOUS ATTACKS. Received 6,4.30 p.m. Lohdon, October 5. Four th< u«and attacked the forts ct Italia and Prospect. 'The British after the fighting buried 332 Boers. The enemy at Fort Italia fought with dogged desperation, repeitedly charging the trenches. The enemy's fire early in the fight damaged the two fifteen-pounders and a Maxim. -Lord Ki*chener,in congratulating Major Chapman, who was in command at Italia, Aid' that but for the defenders' fine stand the result weuld have been .disastrous. Of the outpost which made such a brave resistance at Italia Mountain 14 escaped, and 37 were captured. The latter were released after cirrying the Boar wounded to Babanango. A, body of volunteers and scouts, near Helpmaakar, had a collision with a vanguard of ISO Boers. Three hundred and fifty of thi enemy looted a few bead of cattle at Pietpotgietorsinist, and 200 attacked a mission station at Botbabella, near Middleburg, with a view of obtaining provisions. They were repulsed. Major-General Stephenson has succeeded Bcatson in command of the columns operating in southern Cape Colony. ▼.C.'s FOR COLONIALS. Received 6, 4.40 p.m. Londow, October 5. Lieutenant Bell (Western Australia) and Farrier-Major Hard ham (a New Zealander) are mentioned for conspicuous self-sacrificing acta of bravery at Brakpan and Naauwpoort respectively, and have been awarded Victoria Crosses.
