The funeral of the late Mr. O. K. Stock took place at Te Henui Cemetery on Tuesday afternoon when there was a large and representative gathering. The Lands Department waa represented by Messrs. Strauchon (Commissioner), Bannister, Skinner and Oooke; the School Commissioners by Mess: s. Cock (chairman); the Forest Reserves Board by Messis. Dockrill and McDiarmid; the [ New Plymouth Co-operative ' Society by Messrs. Hopson (director), Brash (manager), and Lennon (accountant). Many other friends of the deceased were also present. The service was read by the Revs. Nixon and j Dudley. There were several beautiful | wreaths," those sent by the Lands DepariI ment and Mr. McAUum being particularly ! massive and effective.

At a trial of the Lawrence Kennedy Milking Machine, held recently atLillydale, Victoria, a man and a boy milked twentyfive cows in half-an-hour. When th» case of the Brick, TUp, Drain, and other Pottery Makers Union came before the Conciliation Board at Wellington on Tuesday, the representative of the employe's claimed there was no dispute in the trade, as none of the employers received an intimation from tbe Union till t k e demands were filed. He therefore asked the Board to rule there was no case to go on with. The Board agreed to cousider the matter in camera, and give a decision to-day. Theemployers, he declared, had been treated by the Union with contempt, and if the Board decided there was a case tor heaing, they wpuld move in the Supreme Gseit for an order prohibiting it. A hew Zealand trooper in South Africa said in tbe course of a letter that so far be had not been wounded, " but perhaps," he goes on to say, "my turn is to come.
