—• [PER PRES9 ASSOCIATION. J Mastkbton, September 17. .O. A. Pinkerton was found dead with bis head in a tub containing about eight inches of water, and his hands grasping the s des. The coroner's jury returned a verdict that death was due to heatt failure and asphyxia. Deceased, who was 55 years of age, leaves a widow and family. He was fie first storekeeper on the Grey, and bore the reputation of being on* of the best accountants in the dibtrict. Dqkedin, September 17. William Troy, a gre.»ser on the Karamea, was drowned at Port Chalmers last night. He was going on board with his brother, and took the outside of the railway trucks on the wharf, while his brother walked on the inner side. There was a splash heard and an alarm given, but an hour elapsed before the body was recovered. At the inquest a verdict of accidentally drowned wig returned, the jury adding a rider that the attention of the Railway Department, which controls the wharf, be called to the urgent necessity for protection of the wharves after nightfall. John Packer, an elderly man, with bis son Howard and another youth were getting tota. a pile* out of a rough gully, and when car ing the piles the dray overturned while crossing a creek. John P*ck«r was crashed to death beneath the dray. His son and the other youth were ateapting to ex'rieate deceased when Howard was kicked in the head and tide by one r f the horses, and badly hurt. John Packer leaves a widow and num. rous family.
