A COMPLAINT.
TO THK EDITOIt. j 1 Sir.—We often hear it said that there is a law for the rich and another for the poor. It may not be so gene-, rally known that in this district there is a law for the town, aDd a law for the (ountry. In support of this con ten- ( tion, I take the following—Some time ago a neighboor of mine returning home saw a strange horse and trap in his front paddock. Two women were hard at work, one with a spade, digging up all his best daffodils, and the other in a very brisk and business-like manner stacking them in the cart. My friend stood and watched in grim silence this extraordinary proceeding, And in the course of half an hour or so, the women departed with the load, a good one. Take another ca'6—take my ccse —I have in my home paddock a lot of English flowers, which, when allowed to bloom make quite a gay appearance, and brighten up the place considerably. These flowers are continually being stolen—not mind you at night time, but in broid day-light. To give one of many instances, a party of ladies from town drove by the other day, and on their return stopped and alighted, then passing me by without even a no', they helped themselves to a whole armful of my flower?, and cleared off apparently aiuch pleised with their booty. Now Sir, I ask what would happen to me were I to try this little game in town, j Suppose for instance I made a raid on say the rectory gardens, and in front of the pardon purloined a lot of his favourite flowors, assuredly I should hj given in charge as a thief, and deservedly so. No doubt those ladies thiok the fl !».«'•» growing on ray land btiLng [ to them ; fei li »ps they do, in thes« d «ys i of Womens nga.'s one can never tell.— I With thanks. I am, etc., Inquibeb.
