At Wellington Supreme Oo'nt on Monday, the jury returned a verdict of not guilty in the Wairarapi murder case, and the prisoner Douglas was remanded to his former custody. In view of the remarks on the cas* made by Mr. Justice Conolly in his charge to the grand jury a week ago, Mr. J. K. Reed, who appeared for Dr. Wilkins, did not submit argument against the admission as evidence of the statement made by Mrs. O'Dow 1 to Dr. Lowe and her husband on the nitfbt before her death. He, however, intimated his objection to the admission of the statement. and His Honor intimated that he could admit the evidence, but before finally disposing of the case he would give Mr. Reed an opportunity to show why the case should be reserved for the decision of the Court of Appeal on this point. The wild boar and sow and peacocks which were presented to the Adelaide Zoological Gardens by the King arrived at Adelaide recently by the steamer Warrigal.
