TARANAKI METROPOLITAN AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.

The following circular is being issued by Mr, Kelsey, secretary of the above Society :—" The CommiM*e desiie mo to bring under your notic 3 the fact that the Society is doing progressive work jof tha most favourable cbaract r, more iy-p' cially in regard to the fuller development of tbe d'tiry find produce classes. As this kduscry cons itutes the mainstay of the province it is only r.visonable to suppose that the exertions of the Society should be backed up by tho e carrying on business in the town it-elf, and whocertainly reap advantage from the farmers' produce The Society will this year be put to vary heavy expense, firstly, by re if on of the very in ■ cr astd prizes they will offer in connection with dairy stock, and, secoadly, by re won of the necessity for bett r ac commodation for their exhibits. In all other centres similarly situated to ourselves, viz., Napier, Palmerston, Wanganiri, and Hawora, the local donations for special prizes are very prominent. With us hitherto they have been very me.igre. Under these circumstances I nm di sired to urge the business public of New Plymouth to make a new departure this year and liberally subscribe to the prize fund of the Society, and eo ead. avour to make the Show of 1901 more worthy sf its metropolitan nourn tii n than it has proved in the post. I ask you to carefully consider this appeal and fill in and return me the attached form at your earliest convenience."
