The dilate referred to the Con- 1 ciliation Board at the instance of the Wellington Typographical Uoion hag been fixed for hearing on the 26th inst. Seventy four newepiper proprietors and master printers in the industrial district have been cited. The claim is in regard to hand compositors, for whom a weekly wage of £3 5s for day band*, and £1 12i 6d for night bands is asked for. Tbe employers demand that tha piece rate be not less than Is Id per thousmd ens. The Conciliation Board con'inued its bearing of the iron and brass moulders' dispute to-d*y. The employers intimated thai owing to tbe r. vvnnciliatory attitude cf the unio , ii y would withdraw from the concessions agreed to tbe previous day. Mr Booth, a manufacturer ofr.griculttral machinery it Christchurch, said the decreasing hours of labour, atd increasing waged, would lv?lp the trade on the downgrade, a'ong 'which it has already | started. Competition from America [was now a very real and important 'factor, and was daily bf coming keener.
