A private telegram from Hokianga states a Feiious accident happened rn Sunday to Captain T. Jones, of the schooner May Howard. The schooner was creasing the Hokianga bar when a heavy * a came on board and washed the captain along the-deck, breaking his left thigh. He is now doing well. Wellington, July 30. John McEwan, aged 71 years, formerly a military tettler at Opotiki, died in the P< rirua Lunatic Asylum yesterday. He had been under restraint for thirty-one years. It was ■aentiened at the it quest that among the patients is a woman who was admitted to the asylum in 1854.
