PER PRE 8 ASSOCIATION. Chrtstchukch, July 18. The election for tbe vacant Ohristohurch s>>at passed very quietly to-day. The polling was small only 9707 vjtebeiug cast out of 17,355 on the roll. It was generally nnt'cipited that the con test between G. J. Smith end (Jhas. Taylor would he close, and that Turnbull's mppoit of denominational granU would mean a loss of ground to him.
