The uf-ual fortnighMy inspection parade of the Taranaki Rifles was held last night, when the-e was an excellent muster.
A vote of sympathy with Lieut. Hooker in his groat bereavement, was passed unanimously, and it wns de ided to send a wreath en the ocoas'on of the fune-al.
Capt. Okey in' im .ted that no leive would be gran'el on Friday, a fine of five shillings would be ir.flicted on all absentees and in addi ion the names will be reported to the officer commanding who has power to increase the fine to £2. Lieut. Cock returns home to-morrow by the Mapouiika. ' It would be a graceful net if the Footba'l Union in view of tho fivs faradecf tho Tavwaki Bittalion, wonM pis'pone all matches fixed for Fiiday. O.ving to there being no through 'rain from Pntea on Fiiday morning, the Pateaßifles will be unable to at tend the Battalion parade. If lim>would allow tho local corps might in vite the townspeople to billet the Paten men and have them brought in on Thursday evening.
