PROPOSED PROMENADE PIER.
COMMITTEE KOKMED. An influential meeting was held at Messrs. Watt and Lying's office on Monday evening for the purpose of ascertfjinirg the feasibility of erecting a promerade pier on the sea beach in c'ose proximity to the railway sta'ion. There we<e present: His Worship the Mayor Mr. E. Doekrill), Messrs. W. Witt, Parker, J. 0. George, Hughes, Kerr and R. Cock.
It was i esolved that: all present be constituted a committee to give efftc' to the above project, Mr. Dojkrill was appointed Cha:rman and Mr. J. 0. George hon. secretary and tr«a 1 u> er.
It was then rsso'ved that Mr. F. W. Merchant be requested to furnish the committee, in a preliminary way, with hi 3 views on the qucst : on (if providing a pier as above ; that, his attention be cilled to a similar structure cow ere'.ted at New Biighton ; that he be asked to suggest the most suitable site, and the conveniences that can be supplied for the alterr.at ve "-mounts fixed by the me ting ; and that the whole be prepnvd with a vi;w to further t-x ensions.
The mee ting was in accord wi h Mr. Govett's coii'rnfcioii that it womll be uqw'S3 to start th« proj -ct if the ccsfc deemed sufficient for the experiments stage. At Mr. Govett's suggestion it was decided to w ite to t> e Mioistars of Marine and Railways, also to the New Plymouth Harbour Boird asking if any oty ction would be tsken to carrying out the object. should the Engineer's report prove favourab'e. A hearty vote of thanks wns ac corded Mr. E Igar Watt for his libow in working up the meeting and for obtaining signatures totl eguirant e lis'.
