As the Duke prorounctd the Parl'Rmcnt open Ihs Duehess pressed an electric key which gave the signal for hoisting the Union Jack and sending a mr ssage to England declaring that tie Royal envoys had accomplished their mission. Lieut. TJru and sixteen M oris took part in tho Royal Escoit, and were cheered i>t v»ri. us points. When the Royal vi-i----tors cr ssed Princes Bridge into the city the ttands were black with people, and mighty cheers rarg out. The military sitht of Hie day was seen at the st ps (f Parliament House, whre Navy and Army veterans of Britain, numbering 250, were surrounded by 4500 boy soldiers of Victoria. The visi ing warships, berthed at Port Melbourne, were visited by 20,000 people } e.-tei d«y. De'acasse, Minister of Foreign Aflir'r-, to expws regret that s it will be impossible to send a French warship t-i New Zeal-nd during the visit o f . the Duke of Cornwall.
