(By Veteban) Theuewss a good muster of the Guards last nigh*; under Captain Taunton and Lieutenants Oook and Holmes. Some useful work was put in § particularly in marching past, in view cf the Duke of York's visit. This was executed with remarkable steidine?s. Eight members of the bugle band were on parade. The bugle band is an ins'itution deserving of every support, and parents should encourage their boys to join, as they receive all the advantages of membership of the company at an nge when thfy would otherflis9 not be allowed to join.

Captain Nopp?, of the Inglewood Riflos, was an interested pppctator of the parade, and f poke very highly of the manner in which the company executed the various movements.

Duriog the evening Captain Taunton presented the prizes recently won on the rifia range. In doing so Captain Taunton expressed his ploasure at the interest taken in the shooting by so many of tb.9 men, and the way in which some, who were only recruits, had come to the front. Sergt. Messenger had won the first prize, a handsome clock, and it was well deserved, as he believed he was the brst shot in the company. Captain Taunton then pres?ct?d Sergt. Mes-'enger with a very handsome marble clock. Private Humphries with a very useful gentleman's companion, as the first aud second prizes for the first-class shots ; to Private Short a very nice silver cruet, and to Private A.llswor'h a v.-ry pretty silver inkstadd, as the first anil second prims for the second-cliss shots. All the recipients wore heirlily applauded on receiving their prizes. During' the evening the men of Sergt. llopkiu's section presented him with a vary usoful mirocco leather shaving eve on the occasion of his marriage, which took place lately. A daylight parade of the local corps tak-ps place on Thursday. On the 24th May it is said that all tin T.ir.unki corps will nioct in New Plymouth for tho purpose of battalion drill, in view of the Royal visit.
