COUNTY MATTERS.

(by special telephone message). At Rahotu on Monday evening, the meeting convened by Mr. Okey, tj bear his address on county matters, wag well attended, over 80 settlers b-ing pre■ant. Mr. W. R. Wright', of Rahotu, presided. Candidates (or the Parihaka Riding were present ar d spoke. Mr. Okey'a address «ss on the same! lines as at Inglewood. After hoaring the views of the speakers, the following resolution, proposed by Mr. Jefse Phillips, and seconded by Mr, H, Harrison, was passed: That this meeting pledges its-If to support the late County Council's administration, and that tol h be continued until the finances of the Council justify their discontinuance. An amendment, which was lost, was proposed by Mr. McGloin and seconded by Mr. O'Rorke —"That a vo'-eof thanhs be accorded to Mr. Okey for bis address on the financial position of the County, but that this meeting is of opinion that better results could be obtained by d fferant management, especially cong dering the large ravenuo obtained ibroughto'l gates and increasing rates." A number of ratepayers outside the Riding who were present were allowed tovotc. The meeting was of a very spirited character.
