THE CONWAY CASE.
(PKB PRBSB ASSOCIATION). (Received 27, 3.50 p.m.) Sydney, March 27. At the Conway inquest' the Government Analyst, recalled, stated that a deadly dose of alkaloid of strychnine could be dissolved by an unskilled person in half a pint of alcoholic liquor ; by a skilled person in less. Brosks, the chemist, recalled, said he erroneously confused sulphate and alkaloid. It was the latter he supplied to Smith. Edith Suddle?tone, of Blenheim, who occupied the cabin with Smith in the Talune, taid they frequently took stout; sometimes Smith paid, sometimes she did. It was net unusually brought by the stewards with th« cork drawn. She had some on the day Conway died, but at Mrs. Smith's sugeestion she did not take it with lunch, but afterwards. She was taken ill th it evening. On the evening that Conway dird witness went on deck with Mrs. Smith, who shortly after 8 o'clock went (o the steerage, and returned after time. Tbat was the evening she was taken ill. Tho case is closed. Received 27, 5 53 p m. Sydney, March 27. The Coroner summed up lengthily. He oommented on the enso with which poisons could be obtained from some pharmacists. The lady in thia case aphad no difficulty in getting strychnine. The jury, after 25 minuW deliberation, leturned a verdict that Conway died of strychnine administered by Jane Smith, who was committed for triil at the sessions opening on Ist April.
