HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOABD.
SPECIAL MEETNIG. A meeting of the Hospital and Oharitsblo Aid Board was held yesterday, all the members but Mr Wilkinson being present. Dr. Valentine reported on the sanitary annagemonts cf the Old Mon's Home, recommending iu the meantime the earth pan system until the Borough adopted a drainage system. | After a long discussion in which the various systems were discussed pretty fully, the Board decided to follow Dr. Valentine's advice. Dr Valentine to make fuller enquiries with the septic system and to report in full later. Alter tho Chairman reported on the! valuation of the Stratford County bs already reported, The House Committee reported recommending that at the outs&t the Board should furnish sleeping accommodation on the men's side for onn aick ward to take four men and one for two men also for 24 cubicles, and oa tha women's side one sick ward for two women and eight cubicles, thus providing for 40 inmates and having unfurnished 19 cubicles. That in each room there is provided for each inmate an iron bedstead with wire mattress of approv d pattern, a flax mattress, two kapok pillows, two pairs Kaiapoi blanket, a table lockor, chair, shelf,
mat, brush and comb and chamber, the cost per inmate being estimated at £5. That the day rooms be plainly furnished and laid with linoleum, the Committee being led to believe that contributions in the shape of easy ' !:haii a and similar comforts would be i *ent in by kindly icedents, That ; linoleum be laid in thn caro.rrker'a four ■ | rooms ind pa'sage, and along thecentre of the corridors. The whole expense . was estimated at not exceeding £4OO. They a'so recommended that the lower passes of each sleeping apartmon should be frosted to ensure privacy, and that a card of rules be printed and hutg in etch rotm. [ Some discussion ensued on the solicitor's opinion that the Board was bound )to d< i al only with the contractor for -, supplies for blankets, A committee was set up, on the motion of Mr. i Stewart, consisting of Mr Macksy and ha mover, to interview the contractor • in reference thereto. i The Board then adjourned for luncb. i On resuming the Chairman moved taut the rate for the year be Is 2d in . the £IOO. ! Mr. Macksy moved, and Mr. Stewart: that the rate be lid. After soma discussion Mr. button ■ moved, and Mr. Stohr seconded, that the rate be Is. This was lost on a division by 7 to 4, Messrs Corkill, Sutton, Lepper and Stohr voting with the noes. The motion for a rate at 11 was thoa carried. On the motion of the Chairmsn, tfter a strong protest from Mr. Lnppor, the Board went into Committee to censider a report by Messrs Mackay and Stewart on the contract pi im for blankets. On roaumir g the report was received and the 'Special Committee thanked for their services. Mr. Sutton brought to the notioe of tha Br.fil ctrfiiin remarks raids by Mr. E. M. Smith, M.HS, at a meettug the previous evening relative to a recent; case of suicide by one of the inhabitants of the Refnge, and asked the Chairman whether the inquiry suggfsted by tho Coroner's jury had been burked, Tho Chairman said he had no know- | ledge of tho matter othor than th*t possessed by tha other members of the Bji.rd.
