(from oua own correspondent). Wk had the greit event of the year, our regatta, this week. It was to "have come oil on the 13th, but till downpour nt'>ppi:d all proceedings until the following day. The 14th wns fine till about 2 o'clock when a thunderstorm oame on, the ruin coming dowfi in shrets the whole of the aft'ino"n. The management got through a number of the events. The attendance was poor; those from the Mimi just got there as the s'orm came The foot races and othe* land sports were well contested, but the water contents were rather hoilow aflairs. Mr Oollis from New Plymouth wan fhore with his camera taking snapshots of the various event. There w-s a dunce at Mr R. O'Donnoll's at Eight but moat of the people clasivd home awing to the wet. The School was examined by Inspector Sp'W'Cer on the 13th, ancd ho too mus< have had a wet ride. Tr o weather keeps very moist, the prospect of bush burning th layout being anything hut rosy. The traiSo over the mountain is con lidernble and if tho Government not sandstone, which is plentiful, put or. tho bad places on the road it would keep foir all tho year round.
