THE INDIAN TROOPS.
*- VISIT TO NEW PLYMOUTH. A well-attended meeting was held at the Town Hall on Wednesday evening, His Worship the Mayor presiding. A protest was made against sendiug half of the contingent, it being considered that all or none should come. There was a great deal of discussion and several rasolutions were passed, some of a conflicting nature, This was chiefly owing to the absence of information as to what the authorities would allow in tho shape of a display. The outcome of the meeting was practically the appointment of those present as a committee to canvass for guarantees and make arrangements. A strong opinion was expressed by several present that no gate money should be charged, others on tbe contrary advocating that means for defraying ex-
penses. The modus operandi will somewhat depend on the programme. If a display takes place oa the racecourse probably a charge of Is for male adults wfll be made, all others being admitted free. A guarantee list was opened and £l6 16s underwritten. There will be a committee mooting this evening, when it is hoped definite arrangements will be to band from tke authorities,
