THE REV. J. J. BROWN ON AMERICA AND THE AMERICANS.
Thh lecture proved a vivid word picture of Ameriein lfe, character, scenery, and the striking features of a nation and country des'ined to pliy no small pai t in the near future of the world's hit-tory. Mr, Brown depicted with considerable force and humour, the journey across the Continent and the narratim of his experiences in Salt Lake City, and on the other hand ff the visits paid to those two iea ien i f thought, O. W. Holmes and J. G, Wbittier, proved an interesting contrast. The place Mr. Brown assigns to tbe American nation, is a very high one, and tbe influence of the AngloSaxon race in the direction of peict was empha ised by the lectu/er. Anecdotes and pertinent reflections wore liberally strewed throughout the lrcture. Mr. Brown was heariily thanked for bis services in New Plymouth.
