The long spell of wet weather and the unfavourable nature of the foreoast bode anything, but well for the success of the Taranaki Annual Regatta held *t Waitara on Thursday, and no doubt

had its influence in the attendance, but in spite of all these unfavourable oircumstancoF, there was a very good mus'er of sightseers, and the banks of the river were fairly well crowded. An excellent display of bunting was made by the shipping at the wharf, both the Manakau and the Surprise exhibited 'wo full lines of flags, and gave a bright appearance to the scene. The trains from town weie well filkd, and in the course of the afternoon the attendance considerably increased, tha weather at that time being very pleasant, All the officials were very active in their endeavours to carry out the even's satisfactorily and punctually, success attending their efforts. As usual, Mr. Spurdle proved a most energetic and courteous Secretary, and the Committee are to be congratulated on a very successful meeting. The City Bind played an excellent selection of music, which was greatly appreciated and enjoyed by all present. The gate money amounted to over .£62, about ,£lO less than last year.
