The Chairman's action in appointing Miss Nixon a pupil to-ieuer at the Werfc Infant School was confirmed ; as well as his actios in closing the schools for a wesdc on account of the death of Her Majesty, The Stratford Borough Council wrote suggesting th,;t the District Valuer should be appointed *o vidua the proposed exchange lauds for bith parties. The Board decided to adhere to arbitration.

A le'.ter from Mr. D. B. L:ttuy lata teacher at Kaimnte written to the Department and forwarded to the Board was read. He complained that during the last two years the Inspector had failed to comply with tha Act and furnish an inspection report en the Kaimate School. He considered that rb four different Inspectors had favourably commented on his work he was being treated unjustly at the present tinr', especially as younger teacbei.s had received promotion. As far as ha knew, no Education Board or School Committee had ever had the least cause of complaint against him in regards school management, teaching or personal conduct, but on the contrary he mentiened int>tance3 of favourable notice. Ho felt, therefore, justified in asking the Department to inquire into the treatment he had received, He claimed that at least be was fully entitled to the 7 teaching marks required to promote him to D2.

S&nior. —Ethel Rowntree, Stratford, £l7; Percy BUncfaett, Cmtra!, £10; Russili Baker, High School, £10; Chae. Douglas, High School, £10; Arthur Evans, Stratford, £lO. For free tuition at the High Sphool for two yvars ha recommended Norman Perry and Isabel Maca (Central) ameng the juniors. None of the seniors had complied with the conditions though one, Hi!d» Butlor (Centrrl) failed only by a decimil point. He suggesteO that htr case might be referred to the Governors frr the-ir favourable consideration.

For free tuition at Stratford District High School he recommended in the juniors Olive Brayshaw (Stratford). Be could not recommend i>ijy of the seniors though Robert Olimie bad just obtained the percentage. In this case owing ti unsatisfactory work after being warn»d, ho recommended that the Inst quarter of his present scholarship be withheld

The recommendations were nd-pted, provided that as to one year's scholarship could be given effect to. The Fi'zroy and Rahotu Committees are to re notified that their schools are overstaffed, and tha"; uale<s the average attendance increases during tho preseat quarter their staffs will be reduced.

The Department submitted a memorandum with conditions relative to the distribution of the vote of £550 (one quarter) for District High School*. Messrs. Mackay and Kennedy were r equeste 1 to report on the matter. The' Jnglew'ogi Committee applied for an exchange of pupil teacher at Norfolk Road, as they considered it advisable to have a female teacher. Tho Chairman was authorised to deal with the matter.

Miss Laura Reed was appointed assistant teacher at Ingle wood. The New Plymouth Committee wrote asking that fresh applications ke called in the third assistant teachership at the Central School. The Committee ars tp be informed that the Board ponsidpr an excellent election pan bp made from the present applicants, and that there was no necessity for the delay and expense involved in calling for fresh applications. A ktter from the Borough Cauncil regrettipg inability tp grant a free water supply to thp sphoola was referred to the Fiaance Committee.

Mefsrs. Govett and Quilliam were appointed solicitors to the Board. Miss J. N. Tillie was appointed teacher at Ratapiko. A request was received fi om settlers on the Kahui Road for assistance in opening a schcol there. Mr. Adlam wss requested to report on the application.
