DELAY AT TELEPHONE EXCHANGE. [pm nan association.] Auckland, January 15. Further irquiry regarding the Oos-toms-stert fire shews that it was discovered very won after the actual outbreak. There km «• siga of fire ten minutes to four when a nbrni drove past the buiHiaga, bat a few aiaatas later a night watckm&a with two constables noticed a hmII s( boning. This they [traced to Hwn, Bond and Bell's building, through ground floor of which a faint gleam waa bow showing. The delay whieh ensued at the telephones, caused by the failure of the central exchange to respond, is now being enquired into.
