DESTRUCTIVE FIRE IN AUCKLAND.
[PEB PHESS ASSOCIATION^] Auckland, January 13. A fire occurred in Customs-street this morning, causing the total destruction of several warehouses, tho total dimage being estimated at about I £IOO,OOO. The fire started in Bond and Well's warehouse and spread to Owen and Co.'s and L, D. Nathan's bonded store, all three being completely destroyed with their contents, as well as Wheeler's business in Nathan's business and Tucker's baking powder factory in Owen's buildings. Nathan's are insured for £51,000 in the Norwich Union, and their loss is estimated at £20,000 above that amount. Owen and Co.'s insurance is for &2.700, and Wheelea's £I,OOO. The other insurances hav.) not beon ascertainable to-day. The firemen ' were quickly at work after the outt break, but were unable to suppress tho i flames. There was some trouble with i the water, through the bursting of a i main, and salt water had to be used, - the accident causing considerable delay. - A woman and bay were injured by a 1 falling telegraph post, the latter i seriously.
