The annual returns of the local Magistrate's Court for 1900, show that 3548 Civil plaints were entered, and 2867 came to hairing, the aggregate being .£37,249, and the ameuiit recovered J22,247. In the Criminal division, 2897 persons were taken into custody, er summoned, 2030 being summarily convicted, who being for drunkenness. Forty-nine neglected children were taken into custody, and 44 sent to various homes or reformatories. 229 distress warrants wore executed.
