HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
The'annual meeting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held on Wednesday. Present: Messrs. F. P. Oorkill (Chairman), Oliver, McDonald,' 'MeOullum, Wilkinson, Sutton, Bellringer, Lepper, Smart, and Scott. An application by Miss Holliday to be placed on the list of probationers was declined with regret, owing to applicant being over age. Dr. Kenny, Rotorua Sanatorium, wrote acknowledging the Board's vote of thanks for his attention to their patients. The Town Clerk notified that the Borough Council was»prepared|to lay 3 inch mains to jthe new refuge if the Board contributed half the cost (£3O). Me that in order to carry mains through the premises so as to give facilities for coping with fires would require 2£ chains additional" with valves, plugs, etc. The Chairman moved, and Mr. Wilkinson seconded, that the matter be rei ferred to the Building Committee with power to make the necessary arrange- ! merits.
after discussion the motion was withdrawn, and on the motion of Mr. liellringer, seconded by Mr. Smart, it wnfc decided that the Building Coinmi tee be instructed to have the wnter kid on to the new Rafuge in the terms of the Town Clerk's letter. Dr. Walker wrote with reference to the case of A . McKee, an inmate of the R-fuge, that his symptoms and%ccouat of aches and pains had always been entirely out of proportion to any depar ;u;e from health that he (the doctor) could make out, and that instead of taking habitual gentle and steady exercise as ordered, the man had, as far as possible, remained in bed, stating he was physically unfit to move about, the consequence being that the leg muscles showed considerable wasting and want of power. There was no doubt that occasionally he suffered considerable pain, but the fact of the man getting to the centre of the town without help showed that the advice constantly given could and should he carried out.
Tho matter was considered in Oemmittee, as was also the propriety of one of the public questioning the inmates as to thoir treatment. On resuming it was resolved that tho person referred to be requested to cease interfering with the inmates of the Home, andthß duties of the officers connected therewith. Regulations are to be drawn up to cover such cases.
Several cases of charitable aid wore dealt with. ; . i i
