GILL-STREET BAPTIST CHURCH.
RECOGNITION OF REV. J. INGS.
An exceedingly interesting service was held ia the Gill-street Baptist Church on Tuesday evening, for tho purpose of formerly recognising the Rev. James logs bs the pastor of the Church. There was a large attendance, the building being quite full, and the service was v§ry haarty and impressive. Suitable hymns to tho occasion were •mng, and a special dedication prayer ! was offered by the R )v, J. Drew, tho retiring pastor. The Rev. A. Dewdney, d tho Thames, give a brief address on the object for which fchey wero met. They kid no claim to any sacredotal idea that they had any power to call] Mr. I' gs to the work unless he was called of Christ, but believing he was Ciui-t,-called they were met to set him apart as the pastor of this church, and o i-'sk for a speoial blessing on his labours. The Rev. H. Collins, pastor of Ponsonby, Auckland, then preached an eloquent forcible sermon from tho Bth psalm, Terse 4,»' What is man that thou art mindful of him," and let John, chapter 3, verse 2, " Now are we tho sons of God and it doth not appear what we shall be," Mr. Collins dwelt m the riga and progress of civilisation,! >md the contrast between the compara-! tive serfdom of the past and the freedom | now enjoyed, due to tho growth d 1 Christianity, The doctrine of tho Fatherhood of God involved belief in i ,he dootrine of the brotherhood of man, j 1 and the claims of those amongst whom ! •ve moved. Mr. Collins proceeded to fipply his avgument to the relation listing between pastor and people, ami -<be proper realisation of the true lignity of man. The concluding d'jvatione.l exercises were conducted by the Key. J. Clark, f Auckland. During the service the; dav, J.
