OUR SEA BEACH.

TO TUI2 EDITOIt. Silt,—l was pleased to read a letter signed by " Ilesident" in your issue of lUth inst., and the previous paragraph on the subject of improving our sea attractions. I havo long felt that charming as our town is, we have so tar neglected what aro really the chief attractions to the majority of our summer visitors, viz. the sea-bathing, the beach, and its approaches. I think I am right in saying the prosperity of all the sea-sido towns in England, is due to tho influx of families from other parts of the country who make a yearly holiday to the coast for the benefit of the.sea air, and because the towns are made attractive for those same visitors, and why should we not it.se our advantages here? Wo havo a prefly town, a beautiful park and—most important of all, though most neglected the sea beach ; and yet I think that the bulk of the people that visit our town during the summer months come firstly for the pleasure of being near the sea, ami secondly because the resort has pretty surroundings. 1 feel ■sure we could benefit tho town greatly, if tho .Borough Uom.ci), backed by the public generally, devised a scheme to improve the beach and luako sen-side attractions, such as a pier with band rotunda, and concerts at least once a week in tho afternoon, and on moonlight nights, and of course we must have bathing houses for ladies, ns well as for gentlemen. The Esplanade could also be improved by making clay or asphalt paths where they are now sand. 1 trust the matter wiii be taken up with spirit, and suggest the eallin? of a public meeting to consider the', question.—l am, etc.", [, A WANT!*.
