BIG FIRE IN CANTERBURY.

Jjarly this morning a fire broke out at the Chiistchurch Meat Company's Freezing Works at Islington. Part of tlid buildings in a portion of the premises where manure is manufactured was destroyed, together with some of the, machinery. A strong north-west wind was blowing and fortunatoly carried the flumes avvay from the main block of buildings.
Word was sent in to Cbristchurch and to the railway fire brigades, but when they arrived tho employees with the factory fire plant and a splendid supply of water had got the Huiiit* under.
Tho damage is estimated at anywhere between XISOO and £3OOO, the amount being dependent upon the damage done by water to the stock ol manure.
The property destroyed is included in what is known as tallow block which is insured for £IO,BOO, risks being divided among twenty-four cfliceis.
