PROPOSED RAILWAY EXTENSION.
BEEFTON TO WESXPORT. (PER PHEB6 ASSOCIATION.) Wellington, September 15, At Reef ton a large public meetinL l was held to discuss a proposal for the extension of the railway from Reefton to Westport. The following resolutions were adopted:—That this meeting is in entire accord with the people of Westport in the agitation for railway connection with InaDgahua and Buller Valleys, with a view to the speedy opening-up of the saw milling j and coal mining industries therein, and j , to attain which the residents throughout the Buller electorate be individually and collectively invited to urge the Government to carry out the wishes of the people; that the Government be asked to obtain, at an early date, a flying survey of the coal seams in Inangahua Valley, and a report by an expert thereon; also a report upon the land a timber that is to be epened up , by the proposed line, and further that an extension from the Reefton end of the Midland Railway should proceed without delay, as a comparatively short distance would tap scams of coal thai would command a ready sal;' out Now Zealand ; that a railway extension league I o a;, >>.)] i'Jr the purpose of furthering iiu movement without delay.
