STRATFORD NOTES.
(from oub own cobrespondent.) A sawmill is shortly to be started at Whangamomona. This will be a bjon to the settlers there, and should prove a profitable venture to the gentlemen who are starting it, There must be a good local demand for timber in the district. Though the Minister for Railways promised some time ago that the railway line was to be fenced, the work does not seem to have been commenced pet. It is to be hoped as little time as iposeibe will be wasted before the work is put in hand.
The retiring Borough Councillors are not going to be returned unopposed. Dr. Paget and Mr. T. Walsh are out against them. A little fresh blocd might not be undesirable in the Council. Considering the claims on his time, Dr, Paget shows a very commendable public spirit in offering his services to the Borough. Professional men so seldom care to take an active part in local politics, that it is pleasant to see one who is not indiffirent to tht interests of his fellow-burgosses. Th' Doctor is largely mtorested in b.rough property, and it is needless to say that he is a man with plonty of ability, and with still more backbone. The ratepayers might do worse then confide their interests to him. Mr. T. Walsh will, no doubt, get a block vote from Stratford sou".h, and can be relied on to safeguard their interests.
