TARANAKI EDUCATION BOARD.

A special mee'.ing of the Education Board was held on Wednesday, sent: Mr HeAllum (Chairman), Miss Heywood, Messrs Adlaiu, Wade, Allsworth, Faull, Kennedy, and Hignetfc. A deputation from the Stratford School Committee, consisting of the Chairman (Mr Greig) and Mr Sole waited on the Board to urge the enlargement of the echool being proceeded with at once. The architect was instructed to pre* parj fresh plans for the Infant School atSfcratfoid and submit the same to tho Board en the 12th inst. The Board then went into Committee to consider the Inspector's reports on the inspection and examination of schools. It was decided that the schools in the district b.oak up for the Midsummer holidays on Thursday, the 20th December, and reopen on January 28th. Scholarship examination was fixed lor Monday, December 3rd, The JRoyal Crown and Imperial Readers were approved, as were also the copybooks recommended by the Inspector. Mr W. R. Moore was appointed teacher at Dudley Road. The question of the disposal of the desks from the Denbigh Road school was referred to Mr Mackay. The action of the Bell Block and ; Egmont Village committees in closing , their schools consequent on the outbreak of scarlatina and pneumonia was , cojfirmed. The question of appointing a Truant '' Inspector was referred to the Finance Committee. The Mahoe Committee wrote urging ' that a teacher's residence should be : erected without delay. They are to j be referred to the Board's previous resolution on the maoter. \ The Kaiaua Committee applied for > aid towards the expense of clearing the , grounds, but the Board had no funds • for the purpose. The Oanuui Committee applied for an additional grant for works in con- ; nection with the school. The request I could not be complied with owing to i want of funds. ' The Board adjourned.
