TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —In your note appended to : lettar of yesterday, your reforenca to me as an M.A. is beside the point, though I do not deny the Boft impediment and am not ashamed of it. Your assertion that instead of farthering tin interests of higher education in Timnaki I am doing my utmost to hinder them will be borne out by few, if my, of those with whom I have been associated in this agitation about the Opaku reserve, whieh, by the way, I was the first to begin. I may add fnat perhaps it would have been more seemly on your part if, instead of laying down a course for the members of the deputation to pursue, you had allowed them to mind their own business and had waited till the result of their interview with the hon. the Minister of Education had become known.—l am, etc., J. Mackay.
Aramoho, August 31st, 1900. [Mr. Mackay first misquotes and then shows an unnecessary amount of heat. In c'aiming the credit of first moving in tho matter lie is chiming more than he is entitled to, though he has done good service in connection therewith. In reference to his concluding remarks the least said the better, excepting that it is our privilege to choose our own time in dealing with public affairs.—Ed.]
