DAIRY PRODUCE REPORT.

The Colonial Consignment and Distributing Company, Limited, report, under date 27th July, 1900, as follow: —The summer weather has at last set in, and the sudden change in the .temperature has naturally influenced the market in helping to bring down prices temporarily. The retailers are only purchasing for their immediate requirements, as the heat is too great to permit them laying in a stock. Butter.—Danish and Swedish butters dropped about 6s per cwt in value by the second week of this month; they have now recovered, to-day's prices being 109s, 112s. The imports during June for both countries show a falling-off of over 600 tons when compared with the corresponding period of last year. Canadian and States butter: The imports from the former country are now arriving in large quantities, and are being sold readily, creameries realising 100s, 106s. Australian and New Zealand: Stocks are very light, a few of the choicest qualities have been sold at 100s to 102s. The imports during June from Australasia amounted to 666 tons, of which 117 tons came from Australia and 594 from New Zealand. Cheese.—The market is on the decline; one of the reasons for the fall is the unusually heavy arrivals at this time of the year. The total imports during last month being 316,674cwtg, as against 220,215cwts in June 1899, thus showing an increase of 96,459cwt5. Canada is, of course, by far the largest contributor to this immense trade, her export to this country during June being 202,171cwt5. To-day's quotations for Canadian and States cheese are 475, 49*, and 465, 48s. New Zealand cheese of the finest quality is holding its own, while second quality is selling at the same rate as the New Canadian. The quotations are 525, 565, and 465, 48s.
