THE TARANAKI GUARDS.
A hew departure in volunteer circles will be made this afternoon, when the Guards will entrain at 4 p.m. for Waitara, marching home by road. Captain Taunton is to be congratulated on giving his company such a practical lesson in useful work. The programme proposed will be something as follow b : Assemble at the Drill Hall at 3.15, march to the station at 4 p.m., going by train to Sentry Hill. Here the | company will be transferred to the ! Waitara train and proceed to Waitara. On arrival there they will be met by | the Waitara Band, which has kindly . given its services. After going through a few evolutions the men will have tea, after which they will be dismissed for a short time. Reassembling, the Waitara Band will play them out of town, and- the company will marok to Fitzroy, where they are timed to arrive at 10 p.m. Here they will be met by the City Bind, which will play them into town. Considerable interest is being taken in the event, as it is a good test of the quality of the corps,
