PEB PBESS ASSOCIATION. Auckland, August 16. News from Samoa is to the effect that the efforts of the Government to reunite the rival parties are likely to end satisfactorily. Mataafa has prevailed on his chiefs to assent to the granting of a distinguished appointment to Tamasese, and the Governor has written to Tamasese assigning him the appointment of Taimua (chief of royal blood), On Sunday, July 29, a memorial stone to the officers and men killed during the Samoan war, subscribed for by the men on English and American ships, was unveiled by the Imperial Governor at Mulinuu.
