GUARDS' CLUB.

LADIES' EVENING. Tiik musical evening at the Guards' Club on Wednesday proved a thoroughly enjoyable entertainment. The seating capacity of the room was strained to its utmost, while a large number of members and others had to be content with standing room on the stairs and landing. The attendance of ladies was very large, giving evidence that they quite appreciated the invitation extended to them. Lieutenant Cook made a very genial chairman, and courteously welc»med the visitors, expressing his great pleasure at such a large gathering on the first ladies' evening—the forerunner, he hoped, of a great many more pleasant evenings, The following excellent programme was then carried out: —Overture, Mr. Garry's orchestra ; song, Private Bauchope; pianoforte selection, Miss Moore; song, with violin obligato, Mr N. Miller (encored); duet (piano and violin), Miss Irvine and Corporal Gold water; song, Private Black; song, Private Bauchope; card tricks and lightning arithmetic, Mr. Moulton (loudly applauded); song, Miss Murphy (encored); song, Mr. Woodart (encored) ; song, Mr. N. Miller (encored); song, Private Rudd ; song, Miss Haywood (encored); song, Corporal Hop* kins; God Save the Queen. Amongst those present were His Worship the Mayor, Kev. P. G. Evans, Mr. J. B. Roy, Captain Taunton, and Lieutenant Holmes. The Guards are certainly to be congratulated on the arrangements made for entertaining their visitors, who all seemed highly pleased at being present.
