Note—The "M" Manure gave .. besi results in proportion t:> cost out #£l9 experiments wiih Champion Swfde Turnips at the Government Kxperimental Farm at Momoh'aki in 1897 Uee page 170; Fifth Koo 'it cf Agricultural Djpartment):— The experiments made at Mcmohaki with various Manures upon Turnips in the Season 189S-99 show that ihe B'sr result was obta ned .from a mixture of one-third steamel bone dust and two-third) bas'e s'ag (Thomas' Phosphate), whilst the be t result, at a minimum cos k , was from a mixture of one-third Lanes' Superphosphate and two-thirds of the VV.M.E. Co's 11 M " Manure. The latter mixture contains the same co nponeivs as the W.M.E. Co.'fl Ko. 3 Mixture, the proportions being a little different. The former comVination points to the fact, now generally recognised, that the value of ba'ie slag, also know as Thomas' Phosphate, has been greatly under-CEtimated. The W.M.E. Oo.'s No. 4 Mixture contains one-third of Thoma sPh osphatc. A perusal of the report oMr. Gillanders, the manager at Momohaki, embodying the results of the experimsnts retried to, which will be found in the Seventh Kc'or. of thi Department, of Agriculture, wunld amply reply any farmer who finds a difficulty in selectingohe most suitable manures.
