A paper published at tbe jUook droop contains a letter from Mr. Seddon to tbe British Resident in relation to a soheme of running a Governmentowned trading vessel through the Oook Group. He stated that, subject to the ratifioition of his coUeaguee, he was prepared to favourably entertain he proposal if submitted by the Oook Island authorities; that an auxiliary oil vessel would be purchased with capital found by the New Zealand Government, the fscuii'y t*iog tbe vetsjl and that of tho Oook fataod lUtboti-jes, the expenses to be defrayed oy Oook Is' and; in return New Zealand goods to have the preference if tho capacity of the vestal was not sufficient to take all goods offering.
