Six hundred Boers attacked 250 ol the North Royal Lancashires at Zand River station, where Major J. E Capper's Railway Pioneers force were repairing a bridge. Lcrd Kitchener forewarned Major Oapper, and the latter entrenched hie force. The Boers, at dawn, opened with a rifle fire, a pom-pom, and twelvepounders. A furious fight raged till the Yeomanry arrived in the afternoon. The Boers, decamping, left seven dead and nine were captured.
