MANGANUI ROAD BOARD.
[FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] The ordinary monthly meeting was held on Monday, June 4th. Present: Messrs. Mackay (chairman), Davies, Hathaway, Harcourt, and Taylor. Mr, Wellington waited on the Board, asking to have the embankments on the Cross Road fenced.—Proposed by Mr, Hathaway, seconded by Mr. Harcourt, "That Mr. Wellington's request re fencing embankments on the Cross Road with a fence consis ing of from tour plain and one barbed wire, with iposts not more than six feet apart be' [acceded to, and that the overseer bo I instructed to see that the embankments are 16 feet in width before the fence is put up." Carried.
In reference to a petition from settlers on the Monmouth Road, asking the Board to raise a loan, Mr. Maloney waited on the Board objecting to have his property included in the loan area. —The Chairman ruled that Mr. Ifarcourt must give notice of motion before the matter could be dealt with. Messrs. Anderson and Blair waited on the Board re Denbigh Road.--Pro-posed by Mr. Hathaway, and seconded by Mr. Davies, "That the overseer be instructed to have the bad places on the Denbigh Road, near Mr. Blair',s p'ace, made passable, and the balance of the money to tlje credit of the Denbigh Road to be spent in strengthening the weak places on the road with a coat of good gravel." Carried. Correspondence was read and dealt with fiotn Mr. Malone re Stanley Road loan; Valuation Department asking for valuation roll; New Plymouth Har>our Bjard rates ; Treasury Department re Stanley Road loan.
Proposed by Mr. Hathaway and second,;d by Mr, Djvies—" That M , Kennell's letter re harbour rates be referred io the chairman with power to act."—Carried, Proposed by Mr. Davies and seconded oy Mr. Tuylor—"That the correepondence from the Treasury and Messis. Budge and Goi d re- Stanley lload loan be refei red to the chairman to reply to, *nd report on at nexs meeting of the Board."—Carried.
The Overseer's report was re.id and dealt with, Mr, T ivlor's motion, that a surfaceman be paid by the week instead of by the day as heretofore, lapssd for want of a seconder.
Proposed by Mr. Mack.iy, seconded by Mr. Harconrt—" That a committee consisting of Messrs. D.ivies, Hathaway, Taylor and the mover be appointed to entire into the question of road maintenance, and report; at next meeting of the Board.''—Carried. Propostd by Mr. Harcourt, seconded by Mr. Mackay—" That the filling on the Monmouth Road be fascined with scrub."—Carried.
Proposed by Mr. Taylor, seconded by t Mr, Maekay —" That the Overseer be instructed to confer with Mr. Eichstadt re the work asked for by him oil the Rutland Road." —Carried, The Overseer was instructed to call tenders for work on the Makura Road and to get the other part ion of the road repaired by day labour.
