RAILWAY CONCESSIONS.
TO THE EDITOR, Sie, —I read the report of the speech delivered by the Minister of Railways ; as reported in your paper yesterday; also your leader of to-day eulogising the same and congratulating the people upon the concessions promised. Will you kindly indicate what the actual concessions are, compared with present rates, and how these will prove of any practical benefit to the workers of the colony ? I confess that to me they seem more apparent than real. With a surplus of half-a-millioD, had the Government shown any disposition to lessen the duties on life's necessities, such as boots and shoes and clothing, we would all appreciate the boon. As it is, I cannot see where the advantage comes I in.—l am, etc., Enquires.
